Fitted vs Universal vs Half vs Undersheet

Size is only half the decision; format is the other half. UK brands sell grounding sheets in four formats, and each one handles sizing differently.

Our general steer: a fitted sheet is the best choice for one main bed, because it cannot drift and it keeps conductive fabric in contact with your skin wherever you lie. Universal and half sheets cost less, span every width from Single to Super King, and suit couples where only one person wants to sleep grounded, since they can sit on one side of the bed. The trade-off is coverage: your legs and feet get reliable contact, the rest of you depends on how you sleep. An undersheet is the most convenient to live with, but because it sits under your normal bedding the conductive contact is less direct than with a sheet you lie on.

On a Super King specifically, the width argument matters more than on smaller beds. At 180 cm wide there is plenty of room for two sleepers, so if only one of you wants to try grounding, a universal or half sheet tucked in on one side is the cheaper and simpler answer. Measuring Your Mattress Before You Order

Bed size names are a decent shortcut, but mattresses vary, especially older ones, continental imports and anything with a topper strapped on. Two minutes with a tape measure avoids a return.

1. Measure the width across the top of the bare mattress, edge to edge. Compare it against the table above: 180 cm means Super King, 150 cm means King, and so on.
2. Measure the length from head to foot. Most UK sizes are 190 or 200 cm; if yours is longer, look at Groundology's Long Single or Emperor listings.
3. Measure the depth from the top surface down to the base seam. Depth is the measurement that catches people out with fitted sheets: deep mattresses and mattress toppers can exceed the depth a fitted sheet is cut for, and the brands we cover do not all publish the same depth allowance. 4. Note anything on top. If you sleep on a topper, remember a grounding sheet needs skin contact to do its job, so it goes over the topper, and the topper's added depth counts towards the fitted sheet's limit.

What About Euro Sizes?

Continental mattress sizes do not line up neatly with UK ones, and the same size name can mean different measurements on different sides of the Channel. If your mattress came from a European retailer, do not order by name alone: measure it and compare against the dimensions stated on the product listing.
